This planet is swarming with movie fans. I don't care where you live or where you visit, you're bound to find tons of people who love cinema. It's become intrinsic for the most part. Now, in this realm of cinematic features, there's only one that stirs more attention and receives more dedication than anything I've ever laid eyes upon. It's the one and only George Lucas classic known as "star Wars." Even all its sequels have been smash hits. How else can you explain the deluge of storm troopers each Halloween? This passion for a Sci-Fi film is kind of ridiculous, but amusing at the same time. Last October 31st, I spotted a Darth Maul costume while trudging around the neighborhood with my daughter. How many "Star Wars" costumes did you encounter on last Halloween?

The tradition is like no other. We all get excited when fall hits and the cool air moves in to clean out the funk left over from summer. In no time it's Halloween and we're picking out that werewolf, vampire, princess, or Darth Maul costume. This is quite the process I might add. Just choosing any old get-up will never do. It's imperative to select a costume that suits our current personality and taste. Maybe for you that's a Darth Maul costume and maybe it's a Freddy Kruger get-up. It really doesn't matter as long as you get to make the choice on your own. I learned this from my kids. There is no way I can ever pick out a Halloween costume for them. It's far too personal. This is why I give them the price cut-off and let them choose on their own. They never cease to surprise me.

Can you here the theme song playing? I know I can. That "Star Wars" epidemic was sure a powerful mark in cinema. I doubt that it will ever fade into the past. There will always be a new generation of "Star Wars" fanatics to carry on the legacy. You'll spot them on Halloween night. Look for the child with the Princess Laya or Darth Maul costume. It's that simple. Personally I'm going to have to go with the Michael Myers legacy. It's much scarier if you ask me.

Are you one of those "Star Wars" nuts? You guys and gals know who you are. I've seen you with your Luke Skywalkers suits and darth vader costumes. You're always the first ones at the special movie premieres and functions. Heck, I even knew a girl who slept in front of the local movie theater for three days to watch on of the new "Star Wars" flicks. She was utterly stoked and didn't seem to think that the curb made a poor bed. Regardless of those extreme measures, she did get inside to see her movie. And that is the main thing, right? Anyway, do you find yourself lounging at home in a darth vader costume? If so, you're probably a qualified fanatic. I have to admit it, I am a Star Wars costume fanatic. Not the new Star Wars either. George Lucas sold out, and that is that. I have gone to thousands, or at least dozens of science fiction conventions in my life, and almost every time, I have worn a Darth Vader costume. From time to time, I have gotten to be creative in my custom choices, but my favorite of all is my Darth Vader costume. There is something about dressing up as the bad guy in my Darth Vader costume that I have always loved. I even get a thrill out of dressing up in a storm trooper costume, although no one wants to be one of the troops. Dressing up in a Darth Vader costume sort of fulfills a fantasy of mine. Think about it. Darth Vader is powerful, evil, and a master of the force. The only character in the entire universe that was more powerful than Darth Vader, in fact, is the Emperor. But the fact is, in my opinion, that Darth Vader still has it over the Emperor. After all, a Darth Vader costume is much cooler than an emperor costume. All that the Emperor wears, after all, is a robe and white makeup.

You can try making your own Darth Vader costume, but it can be pretty difficult. Oh sure, the Darth Vader robe is easy, and even the Darth Vader gloves, but try making a convincing mask for your costume on your own. I'm not saying that it cannot be done, but it seems like more trouble than it is worth when you can just go out and buy one. That has always been my choice when it comes down to it. I do not have that many hobbies besides dressing up, and for me the end all and be all of dressing up is the Darth Vader costume.

The best thing about my craze for the costumes is that it is something that I can share with my kids. Each of them loves to dress up in the Darth Vader costume, or one of the many other Star Wars costumes that are out there. What Halloween time comes, you can bet that they are overjoyed! They just can not get enough of the dress up games that we all play together. For them, they have one of the coolest dads in the world, and for me and get a kid all over again. Everyone gets to win!
